I just made it back to California from Oregon. I lost the book I was reading "Brimstone" (I think I left it on the plane). So, in desperation, I thought I'd give Stephen King another chance, even though his past few novels have been less than impressive.
Cell is so reminiscent of the Stand that it is scary and exciting. I'm 25 pages into it and it is a non-stop whirlwind of a normal day in America turned upside-down within seconds -- and the terror just keeps on coming. I've already had nightmares about this book. So far I'm pretty impressed.
The Portland trip was a whirlwind. A great conference, a great town -- raining the whole time. I'll be back up in the Pacific Northwest in a few months. It's always nice to visit.
